Zero Carbon Freight Corridor Development Guidelines for China
About
Forging a Zero-Emission Freight Era: A Core Pathway to Sustainable Logistics
Driven by global climate action and the energy revolution, the Zero-Emission Freight Corridor (ZEFC) is a strategic imperative for green transport. It represents more than a technology shift — it marks the genesis of a systemic transformation connecting industrial upgrading, energy security, and regional synergy. Developed by ITDP China in collaboration with technical partners at the ICCT and Shaanxi E-Logistics Technology, these Freight Corridor Development Guidelines 1.0 introduces a structured methodology grounded in Intensified Transition, Sustainable Economy, and Resilient Ecology.
Addressing the core questions of ‘why, which, and how’, the Development Guidelines and toolkit provides policymakers and operators with practical tools to quantify economic and environmental value, move beyond one-size-fits-all solutions through scenario-based decision-making, and reduce investment risk via stakeholder partnerships and financial innovation. It also emphasizes lifecycle cost optimization of corridors to ensure economic viability while translating China’s emerging practices into a standardized, globally replicable framework.
Version 1.0 focuses specifically on road freight electrification, laying a solid foundation for future expansion into additional zero-emission energy pathways. Governments and enterprises are invited to join this collaborative exploration of green innovation — defining rules through science, advancing solutions through scenarios, and collectively charting a resilient, zero-emission future for freight transport.
