Join us as we spotlight Tianjin, the recipient of the 2024 Sustainable Transport Award, and its groundbreaking initiatives in nonmotorized (NMT) transport and urban mobility strategies. Featuring Tianjin’s leading urban designers, this session will also discuss the city’s key evaluation model for planning city-wide NMT integration. Learn how the city’s strategies, public involvement, and influence on China’s national NMT standards have established a framework for replication and transformation in cities worldwide.

Xianyuan has been with ITDP since 2010, initially as transport specialist managing the BRT improvement and impact analysis in Guangzhou and Lanzhou and currently as the Deputy Director of ITDP China. As well as working for ITDP, she has worked as a consultant to Asian Development Bank, World Bank, and UN-Habitat funded urban transport projects in Asian, African and Oceanian cities.
She has been managing sustainable development projects for the past 10 years in around 10 countries and over 20 cities, dealing with several topics, including urban mobility, urban development, child friendly city and communication. More recently, she has been involved in projects in Tianjin GEF TOD project, Penang sustainable urban mobility plan, Guangzhou East train station TOD project, and Lanzhou BRT impact analysis.
Xianyuan holds a master’s degree in Transport Engineering from Shandong University, China, where she spent one year working in transport research center after finishing her degree.
Yue Lin is the Deputy General Manager of Tianjin Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd., and the Executive Director and General Manager of Tianjin Hongya Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd. A senior engineer and registered consulting expert, she graduated from Tianjin University’s Environmental Science and Engineering School in 2008. Hongya Consulting, a comprehensive Grade A firm, specializes in government project evaluation, industrial planning, investment consulting, and international services. Currently, the team is leading city-wide projects totaling 100 billion yuan for Tianjin’s Development and Reform Commission.
Dr. Jiang is the deputy director at China Sustainable Transportation Center (CSTC),
an independent think tank founded by the Energy Foundation. He has been
managing a variety of projects in Chinese cities, including transit-oriented
development, urban retrofits, non-motorized transportation system development,
and city carbon emissions evaluation. Mr. Jiang also conducts related research and
has published over 30 papers. On policy development, he has been a key expert
writing a number of guidelines and codes for the Chinese central government’s
ministries. Dr. Jiang received his PhD degree in urban planning from Tsinghua
University, dual master degree of city planning and science in transportation from
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and bachelor degree of architecture from
Tsinghua University. He also holds a national urban planner certificate in China.
Xi Zhao is a Senior Transport Specialist in the World Bank. She has worked on various lending and technical advisory projects in East Asia, Middle East North Africa, and South Asia, including urban transport, decarbonizing transport, regional railway connectivity, ports, and innovative pilots. She holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Tsinghua University, and master of engineering and PhD degrees in transportation planning from the University of Tokyo.
