BRT Simple Calculator Of Project Effects (SCOPE)
About
Bus rapid transit (BRT) is a powerful mobility solution that can move many passengers in cleaner buses, helping cities meet climate goals. Building on ITDP releases like the 2024 BRT Standard and the BRT Resource Hub, the BRT Simple Calculator Of Project Effects (SCOPE) is a user-friendly tool currently available as a downloadable Excel sheet to help users estimate the potential climate and air quality impacts of their rapid transit projects.
An upcoming web-based interface for the BRT SCOPE will soon allow anyone to gather ridership, climate, and air quality predictions for BRT corridors in minutes. With high-quality data sources and less user effort, the interface will empower all users to champion sustainable transit.
The BRT SCOPE tool includes robust default values but is also fully customizable, allowing users in data-rich and data-poor contexts to calculate preliminary estimates of climate impacts. Notably, the SCOPE is meant to be used by development banks, transport planners, city officials, and other advocates to make the case for funding BRT as a powerful mobility solution in any city.
Stay up-to-date on other ITDP model releases and access additional SCOPE tools in Excel for protected bike lanes and off-street parking reform.
Note: The BRT SCOPE tool updates ITDP’s previous BRT Transport Emissions Evaluation Model for Projects (TEEMP) with new and improved data and methods.
