Bus rapid transit (BRT) is a powerful public transit solution that can move large numbers of passengers in cleaner buses, helping cities deliver on their climate goals. ITDP is excited to introduce an updated tool for estimating the climate and environmental impacts of BRT projects around the world, stemming from the recent release of the 2024 BRT Standard. The BRT Simple Calculator Of Project Effects (BRT SCOPE) is a user-friendly spreadsheet tool that estimates the potential climate and air quality impacts of these projects. The tool helps development banks and cities make the case for funding BRT as a powerful sustainable transport solution, especially as ITDP builds on our year of the bus and calls for more investment into bus systems.

This webinar is intended for staff at development banks and city-level decision makers who are interested in applying for, or granting, funding for BRT projects (particularly in data-poor contexts). We will introduce the BRT SCOPE tool to internal and close external partners, provide a high-level explanation of its methodology, and walk attendees through use cases of the tool.

Madeline Liberman Associate - Monitoring and Evaluations, ITDP Global

Madeline (she/her/hers) is the primary staff member for ITDP’s Monitoring and Evaluations program, tracking and analyzing the organization’s projects and impacts around the world. She has previously held internships in community planning and development and urban history research. She is passionate about urban ecology and sustainability, climate and environmental justice, and GIS mapping. Madeline holds a bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies from Barnard College. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, playing the cello, and biking.

Winnie Wang Lead Transport Specialist, Infrastructure Program Leader – World Bank Group

Winnie Wang is a Lead Transport Specialist and Infrastructure Program Leader with the World Bank Group. Professionally trained in transport planning, she has led diverse operations including urban mobility, road connectivity, railway reforms and logistics improvements in three regions of the Bank. Winnie is also the co-lead of the Global Knowledge Group for Inclusive Urban Mobility and Accessibility.

Prior to joining the Bank, Winnie worked at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority for Metrorail planning, and Transport for London for intermodal transport planning with big data application. Winnie is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Beatriz Rodrigues Public Transport and Electrification Manager, ITDP Global

Beatriz (she/her/hers pronouns) leads ITDP’s global initiatives in public transport and electrification, spearheading the development of strategies and policies. She coordinates knowledge sharing among regional offices, focusing on rapid transit, buses, electrification, paratransit, and BRT. A Brazilian native, she began her work in ITDP at our Brazil regional office in 2016 and joined the Global team in 2024. Throughout her career, Beatriz has collaborated closely with public transport stakeholders, including managers, operators, civil society organizations, the private sector, and academia. She specializes in project, strategy, and policy development for public transport, prioritizing quality, integration, inclusivity, and zero-emission systems. Beatriz also has experience in planning and coordinating capacity-building initiatives and knowledge exchanges through meetings, courses, and webinars.

Beatriz Rodrigues holds a degree in civil engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and a Master’s in Transport Engineering from COPPE/UFRJ. During her master’s studies, she focused on enhancing the quality of bus public transport systems, considering the perspectives of vulnerable users, particularly caregivers and young children. Fluent in Portuguese and English, and with moderate knowledge of Spanish, Beatriz is passionate about advancing sustainable transport solutions on a global scale.
