Scaling Finance for Impact: Clean Buses, Clean Air, Shared Prosperity | Belém, Brazil

Hosted by SLOCAT at the transport-focused Blue Zone, this event will highlight the importance of elevating climate finance to support the transition to electric urban bus systems. With emissions set to rise 26% by 2050, urban transport is a fast-growing source of greenhouse gases. Bus electrification, when supported by walking and cycling, is among the most cost-effective, equitable climate strategies. ITDP’s research on Compact Cities Electrified, offers global and country roadmaps that quantify needs, costs, and pathways for decarbonizing transport. Through models from the World Bank and BNDES (Brazilian Development Bank), this discussion will highlight how concessional loans, blended finance, and private-public partnerships can scale investment and impact in public transport.
