  • Event 3: Mayors’ Communique on Road Safety, May 7th

Read the Series Overview here.

More than one million people are killed on the world’s roads every year, with the vast majority of crashes affecting pedestrians and cyclists in low- and middle-Income countries (LMICs). This has been the reality for the past 20 years, despite critical work from the United Nations, World Health Organization, and road safety advocates. Recognizing the need to act, governments from around the world declared a Second Decade of Action for Road Safety with the explicit target to reduce road deaths and injuries by at least 50% by 2030.

In this webinar, speakers will discuss the relevance of the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety, and provide case studies and good practices that demonstrate how policies and interventions can lead to action and scaling. Speakers will also review the Safe Systems Approach, and share practical implementation and measurement strategies. This webinar will be the first in a series leading up to the release of the Mayors’ Communique on Road Safety, a forthcoming declaration recommitting to taking action on road safety.

Interpretations will be available in Portuguese, Spanish, and French.
