ITDP Brazil has played a key role in the development, implementation, and creation of policies that prioritize public transport, active mobility, and social inclusion in Brazil since 2010. To celebrate this milestone is to recognize the impact the team has had on transformational projects the more than ten major Brazilian cities. Over this time, ITDP Brazil have carried out dozens of projects, guided by a collective vision to re-imagine the urban environment to meet the needs of people, especially the most vulnerable communities, in Brazil’s cities. We believe that transforming urban spaces means making them more inclusive, cleaner, and more accessible, and that this process involves creativity and collaboration with governments, civil society, and other institutions.

This commitment to the ITDP mission goes beyond one-off actions. The team continues to works towards long-term impact by investing resources in initiatives that have cemented the ideals of sustainable, equitable urban mobility in a country with a pivotal role in the climate crisis. We know that solutions to urban challenges do not come overnight, which is why over the course of the last 15 years, ITDP Brazil has developed more than 150 publications that serve as references for policymakers at various levels of government as well as members of civil society, the private sector, academia and the media. These resources ensure that all stakeholders can find support when seeking to transform cities into more livable places.
Since 2013, ITDP Brazil has also delivered more than 800 presentations and training activities and reached more than 60,000 people, especially public administration managers and technicians involved in urban policy. The team continues to curate technical, evidence-based support to increase the impact of ITDP regionally. In the last five years, ITDP Brazil has trained more than 1,600 people through MobiliCAMPUS, a distance learning platform offering content around urban planning and mobility. In May, they released the same courses through the Virtual School of Government (EV.G), a distance learning platform of the National School of Public Administration (ENAP). More than 6,000 people have enrolled through this channel over just five months.
The trust that the team has built up over the years is a reflection of a dedication to promoting real change for Brazilians through respecting the independence and ethical principles that guide the work. During this time, more than 60 people (including technicians, communicators, researchers, interns, collaborators and administrators) have worked with ITDP Brazil to ensure that people’s wellbeing comes first.
Throughout these fifteen years, creativity has been a primary tool for innovating and proposing solutions that challenge the status quo of private vehicle use, urban sprawl, and inequitable access. With often limited resources, boldness and imagination are essential to driving profound change in the transport sector. While continuing to form strategic partnerships and amplifying ITDP’s impact, the team looks forward to building a future in which Brazil’s cities are made humane, accessible, affordable, and sustainable for all.
With COP30 taking place in Belém, Brazil in 2025, ITDP’s work in the region will continue to put an important spotlight on the role of sustainable transport in addressing climate and equity challenges.
