San Francisco: Reclaiming Streets with Innovative Solutions

Streetfilms’ new video, created in partnership with ITDP, showcases San Francisco’s new sustainable transportation measures that earned the recognition of the sustainable transport award committee. These include the parklet program, which converts parking spaces into people spaces in the form of mini-parks adopted by local businesses and has its roots in Park(ing) Day, the annual event began by the SF-based organization Rebar in 2005.

The city is embracing new technology solutions for parking management with the SFPark program, which will make finding parking easier by adjusting prices based on peak demand. It has also seen a whopping 71 percent increase in bicycling over the last five years, moving them closer to their goal of having 20 percent of all trips by bicycle before 2020.
