• Other cities trying to emulate innovative projects mooted by KSRTC in Mysore • After KSRTC implemented ETM on all routes many State Transport Undertakings (STU) in India have visited KSRTC, studied the best practices and are in the process of implementing • Other STUs are in the process of implementing Web based Passenger Reservation System on the lines of KSRTC • ITS project can be emulated in other cities as this is World Bank’s demonstration project

Introduction of new initiatives in Mysore would improve public transport system About Mysore City:  A Heritage City  Second largest city of Karnataka State  City of palaces and major tourist destination  Developing as a Satellite city of Bangalore  Emerging as IT hub in Karnataka Mysore City Profile: Population 2001 7.86 lakhs Estimated in 2006 9.04 lakhs Estimated in 2011 10.4 lakhs Area 80.5 sq km Road Network 1773 kms Mysore City Traffic Characteristics:  Heterogeneous – mix of fast & slow moving vehicles  Current Vehicular Population – 3.55 Lakhs  Growth per annum – 8-9% Composition of vehicles in Mysore City: Cycle-17%, Auto-14%, Bus-13%, Car-1%, 2 Wheelers-22%, Walk-33% Current Scenario: Increase in  commercial & tourism activities  overall economic growth of city  use of personalized vehicles New initiatives of KSRTC would address the following issues  Lack of effective Mass Transport  Poor road infrastructure and increase in rate of accidents  Shift of activities from Bangalore to Mysore New initiatives of KSRTC will: • Improve public transport • Improve non-motorized travel and public space • Result in reduction of private vehicle usage • Development of Transport Infrastructure • Result in reduction in Transport related air pollution
